Most thoughts stolen from Josha Bach.
brain is not a person, but a mechanical tool:
- identity is a story that brain tells itself, there's no real me, each person has different simulation of me and I have one (or more) as well - self is an illusion made through sequence of static snapshots
- it simulates everything that it knows how to, including simulating a person
we suffer in our minds, and we can change our definition of suffering as well
- suffering has evolutionary reason - to move around and do things, otherwise we'd be happy starving to death
purpose is like a fitness function:
- "monks hacked their fitness function" - they are happy not having anything, not doing anything, and not participating in society
